Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa brought worldwide attention to her work with the poor and dying in India in her over 60 years of service to humanity. She established a new religious order, The Missionaries of Charity, whose members now number in the hundreds. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1979. Upon her death in 1997, it was speculated that she would be elevated to sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church.
